How we do it
Aquamarine, green and salmon beryl, heliodor and intermediate beryl colour ranges are sourced mostly as rough directly from mines and alluvial plains in South India. Here the mining is artisanal and material comes from a combination of family runs mines and alluvial material turned up by farmers ploughing fields. The genesis is an area of pegmatitic swarms in heavily decomposed granite centring in and around the Karur district of Tamil Nadu. Good material is very hard to find and a sourcing trip usually lasts more than a week, however it is worth the effort. Karur material is widely believed to have the best lustre in the world and unless disclosed none of our material is heated so all colours are natural and avoid the grey tones that treatments can induce. We also source direct from Indian deposits in Orissa and Kerala.
The rough is taken to Jaipur, India for cutting. Here cutters known for their excellence by the director for 20 years shape and facet stones according to our specifications with and eye for proper proportions and optical effect. We do not cut for weight, we cut for colour, light, and brilliance and according to current market demands. This ensures a top quality product with a marked attention to detail which we are proud to supply.

Emeralds
Our emeralds are sourced as cut stones direct from Gemfields PLC. These are Zambian emeralds from the worlds single largest miner of emeralds supplying around 20% of world supply. Gemfields has exacting standards and recognised compliance in ethical and environmentally sound mining practice. They are in the business of supplying rough to major label manufacturing jewellers. The stones supplied by Geminvestments are cut by Gemfields themselves and as such are cut well, and have a transparent chain of custody from the mine to our customers. There is no uncertainty or questions about this material it is guaranteed. We do not sell material from any other source as we cannot be as confident about other material. You can find out more about Gemfields here.

Who does it
Company director Andreas Mitchell, originally is from New Zealand and has been involved in gemstones for many years though a family run gemstone wholesale business. Through this Andreas has built up an intimate working relationship with a number of Indian miners and cutters. Based in the East of England, Andreas has a specialist understanding of gemstones from the mine to the market and a passion for making sure that he knows exactly what he sells. He has an FGA from Gem-A in London and a BSc (hons) in Gemmology and applied mineralogy from Kingston University, London. His love of beryl is influenced by his two favourite colours, blue and green (water and forest) which remind him of New Zealand.
